Dawn
Seeing the light from behind the clouds in the painting I am sure the time of day was neither dawn or dusk. But this painting surely was the dawn of a new chapter in my life.
This was the first painting I completed after a gap of nearly 10 years. I undertook it as an exercise to gauge how out of touch I was. I remember me doing what could politely be called guesstimation every step of the process, but when I finished the painting I had tears rolling down my eyes.
As one who strongly believes that effort is the most attractive part of any endeavor and does most things in life with much deliberation I finally understood what it meant to be a vessel.Particularly after the fact that the next two paintings I produced with my usual deliberation turned into indecipherable mushes of paint. It felt as if the first painting ‘happened’ to make me understand that my job was just to lay the groundwork for the muse. The act of making art never stops to perplex and awe me to the same extent as witnessing an act of nature does. I now understand they are one and the same.
